Programs & Services

CFD2 has implemented programs and services to better serve the residents of the fire district. Click on the tabs below or contact us at 913-432-1105 to learn more.

Fire Safety Education

Contact us at 913-432-1105 to set up a Fire Safety Education course for your school, organization, or community group.

Home Inspections

This program offers District residents the opportunity to have a CFD2 inspector visit their home and evaluate the existing level of fire safety. This voluntary inspection assists residents by providing information on how they can prevent and escape fires within their home. Topics discussed during the inspection will include: candle safety, electrical hazards, heating systems and appliances, household hazardous materials, exiting and escape routes, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers. The inspector will also answer residents’ questions regarding their particular home. To schedule a home fire inspection, call 913-432-1105 or email us at ContactUs@cfd2.org.

Smoke Detector Program

If your smoke alarms are sounding (not chirping) or if strobes are flashing, leave your home immediately and call 911 from a safe location.

CFD2 wants to ensure that everyone has working smoke detectors in their home.  We can usually provide and install smoke detectors at no charge to residents of the fire district who are unable to purchase or install smoke alarms themselves and OWN the property. (It is the responsibility of the landlord if a rental property is in need of properly functioning and up-to-date smoke alarm(s). Please call our office if you have any problems with a rental property or landlord not supplying or installing working smoke alarms). Our smoke alarm inventory is made possible by community donations and discounts, so quantities are limited.

CFD2 will also assist with changing batteries to residents who are unable to safely change batteries themselves. Our fire units do carry a limited supply of smoke detector batteries.

*Please note that we are unable to service hardwired detectors or to install them. A licensed electrician is required for any work involving a wired smoke detector.*

For more information please contact us at 913-432-1105 or visit our Administrative Offices at 3921 W. 63rd St., Prairie Village.

We thank Lowes in Roeland Park for providing us with smoke detectors at reduced cost for this valuable program.

Critical Information Program

Help us to Better Serve You

Our Critical Information Program provides residents within the fire district the opportunity to provide information to our emergency responders that could be critical in the event of an emergency. As a result our emergency responders will be better prepared and able to provide the best service possible.  In regards to emergency response, critical information might include information regarding access to the building, a person’s medical needs or equipment, mobility limitations, communication issues, or safety hazards. Although we know our pets are like family, this program’s form is not intended for pet related information.

The information provided through this program will only be used by CFD2 emergency responders to improve their ability to meet the needs of the customer.  Each year CFD2 will contact those who provide critical informaton to help ensure the information is current and accurate.  In turn, we ask that individuals participating in this program contact CFD2 if any of the information they have provided to us should change.

If you live in the CFD2 fire district and have Critical Information you would like to provide to us, please complete the following form and submit.

Demolition Permit Reimbursement Program

CFD2 is looking for residential properties that are to be demolished to use for training purposes.  We will reimburse owners for the demolition permit under qualifying circumstances.

Which Properties Qualify?

Certain conditions must apply in order for us to utilize a property for training:

  • Property must be located within the CFD2 service area.
  • There must be at least one or two days between the completion of asbestos abatement and beginning of demolition.
  • Each property will be evaluated by CFD2 personnel to determine whether it can be effectively utilized for training purposes.

How Does It Work?

If the property being demolished meets the requirements listed, the owner may qualify for reimbursement of the demolition permit. A meeting and site visit with a CFD2 representative is required to determine final eligibility.

Please contact CFD2 Training Chief Mike Morgan to discuss the property and determine whether it qualifies.
