Welcome from Fire Chief Steve Chick

Welcome to the new website for Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No.2 (CFD2). As you peruse our site and become familiar with the variety of services that are provided by CFD2, you will get a glimpse into the lives of the dedicated group of professionals that proudly serve the citizens and visitors of Northeast Johnson County Kansas.

Renowned developer J.C. Nichols opened his first make-shift fire station in a construction barn in Prairie Village on January 1, 1947 after recognizing the need for fire service for his new housing developments. At the time he may not have envisioned the changes that were to come to the fire service, which resulted in the later addition of modern fire stations and the present Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 2. Our Fire District serves the eight municipalities of Mission, Prairie Village, Roeland Park, Fairway, Westwood, Westwood Hills, Mission Woods and Mission Hills from three stations staffed around the clock with 63 employees assigned to three shifts. Certainly Mr. Nichols would marvel at the Fire District’s continued high level of service to Northeast Johnson County which continues to this day.

CFD2 looks forward to the future as we explore more efficient service delivery methods that will include an Advanced Life Support (ALS) first responder component and a more robust Community Risk Reduction program (CRR). As always, we stand ready to add value with our readiness to the eight municipalities we serve. Hopefully this is just like J.C. Nichols would have wanted it!

ISO Rating

CFD2 – ISO Class 1

CFD2 has a Class 1 ISO Public Protection Class rating. ISO (the Insurance Services Office) upgraded this rating from a Class 3 effective Nov. 1, 2015 based upon a comprehensive evaluation of the fire suppression capabilities of the Fire District. A class 1 PPC rating is the best rating that can be given to a fire service organization in the United States and a very small percentage of organizations have achieved this rating.

ISO evaluates the fire suppression capabilities of fire organizations across the country according to a uniform set of criteria in areas such as; emergency communications, equipment, staffing, training, station location, operations, community risk reduction and water supply. Information gathered is used to assign PPC ratings. These ratings are utilized by many insurance companies in establishing commercial and residential property insurance rates, with lower premiums generally given to those with better fire protection.
